William was a member of the launch team at Financial News in March 1996 and was Editor of the publication between 2004 and 2011. In this time Financial News established itself as one of the most widely-read and respected publications for the investment banking and asset management industries.
Since 2011, he has focused on writing about the investment banking industry, publishing a weekly column in Financial News on the big issues facing the industry and the inside story on individual banks.
William also produces his own bespoke research on the investment banking industry. He is a regular speaker and moderator at conferences and private events, and commentator on TV and radio news programmes, including the Today programme and BBC News.
As Editor, William oversaw the growth in Financial News Online, which now has more than 55,000 subscribers at more than 1,200 different firms. He led an editorial team of 50 staff, setting the tone and direction of the publication’s editorial content, and played a central role in the sale of the business to The Wall Street Journal in 2007 and in its subsequent integration into Dow Jones.
He studied history at Oxford and London universities, speaks fluent French (and bad German), and attended the international executive programme at INSEAD. Born in the UK, he has also lived and worked in France, Germany and Hungary.
